Welcome to the 37th Annual Alliston Potato Festival!

NOTICE: Battle of the Bands Event has been cancelled
Due to lack of participation the Alliston Potato Festival Committee had to cancel the Battle of the Bands event. The bands that entered will be notified and the entry fee will be returned.  Please direct all enquiries to Eva Martin 705 435 6857.  We would like to thank those bands that showed interest in the event.

The committees have been very busy over the winter organizing and booking entertainment that we’re sure you will enjoy! Our event kicks off on Friday, August 6 at 7pm with our very popular parade right down Victoria Street.

We have a wide range of new events at the fairgrounds all weekend. It promises to be one of the most exciting weekends. Appearing at the fairgrounds will be the Carpet Frogs Band www.thecarpetfrogs.com The band has been working under this name for years but are still best known as the band who backed up Burton Cummings on his tours. They are sure to keep things hopping – you won’t want to miss for sure!

To get everyone up and moving early in the morning, there is a potato pancake breakfast at St John’s Church on Victoria Street. The street is closed all day with vendors, entertainment, sales, food, kiddie rides and fun for the whole family.

Down at the fairgrounds there will be a midway, bingo, food, vendors and a refreshment tent. The special entertainment this year starts with Circus Jonathan at 11am and then again at 1:30pm. At 1pm we are having the Elementary students from Beeton perform in a drumming band. This is their first time performing out of school so let’s all come out and cheer them on! Around 2pm there will be a Martial Art demonstration done by Anna Petran – who trains at Banting Memorial High School. She is an instructor for Karate, Kobudo, Ninjutsu, Tai Chi Chuan and Qigong. A must to attend that’s for sure. Also throughout the day there will be potato decorating for the kids and young at heart. Our ATV MUD-BOG is also being held at the fairgrounds starting at 1pm with registration at 11am. Appearing at the Mud Bog will be The Lady and The Tramp Band – also a new item at the festival.

The evening events at the refreshment tent at the fairgrounds start at 9pm with a band called Bad to the Bone www.badtothebond.ca This band is billed as the only authentic tribute to George Thorogood in North America. If that is not enough we have another band appearing at the arena on Nelson Street. They are Hot Rocks – tribute to the Rolling Stones www.hotrocks.ca Start time for band will be 9pm and admission is only $15.00. Advanced Tickets can be purchased at: Brisco Furniture,Taylor’s Jewellers, (Victoria St); Cool Moose Creamery, (Church St); Mike’s Family Restaurant, (Wellington St.) and Quik Cup Cafe in the Tottenham Mall.

We are not done yet! We still have a full day on Sunday! Kicking off the events will be our annual Baby Show starting at 10:00am at the fairgrounds. We will be having a clown doing balloon characters for the kids before the Baby Show gets under way. After the baby show, there will be magic show especially for the kids. On board will be the K9 Team doing a Dog’s agility show; a demonstration from Monkeynastix; the Highland Dancers and finally ending with the North of 9 Cloggers. The folks in the refreshment tent will be entertained by Glen Cameron and his band. The whole event is officially closed off with a concert in the park – this year the group is called The Lady and The Tramp.

So as you can see it is promising to be a fun filled weekend that you won’t want to miss. See you at the festival!!
